“The Creative Spirit: In Solitude and Together”

What is creativity? Let’s explore the creative spectrum in our own lives. Ancient Greeks deemed it a divine trait bestowed upon a select few. Later came the image of the isolated, suffering artist (think Plath, Woolf, van Gogh). Creative inspiration may spring from Steinbeck’s “lonely mind of one man”; Poet Laureate Ada Limon’s “constant awe, a need to call out through the dark”; the collaborative spirit of Rhiannon Giddens; the jubilant improvisation of Bobby McFerrin’s “Circlesongs”; or the ephemeral mandala sand paintings by Tibetan monks.
